Virginia Street Project Weekly Update | July 10, 2020

The Regional Transportation Commission (RTC) of Washoe County plans to implement northbound-only traffic on North Virginia Street near the University of Nevada, Reno. Beginning on Monday, July 13, through fall of 2020, North Virginia Street will be open to northbound-only traffic between 15th Street and the Sierra Street/Comstock Drive/Virginia Street intersection, just south of McCarran Boulevard. Southbound traffic will be detoured to Sierra Street to 15th Street to Virginia Street.

The closure has been planned as part of the Virginia Street Project and is taking place in conjunction with a separate, but adjacent, construction project to build new apartments near the University of Nevada, Reno.

In approximately two weeks, the RTC will finish construction on the east half of the roundabout near Lawlor Events Center. At that time, the RTC’s construction on North Virginia Street in this area will switch from the east to the west side of the street. Northbound-only traffic will continue between 15th Street and the Sierra Street/Comstock Drive/Virginia Street intersection, but traffic will be shifted to the east side of North Virginia Street.

The Virginia Street Project is set to be complete near the University of Nevada, Reno, this fall. The Midtown segment of the Virginia Street Project is anticipated to wrap up in August.
