24 Jun Virginia Street Project Weekly Update | June 23, 2020
Virginia Street Closed from Center St. to Vassar St. on Thursday, June 25
Reno, Nevada (June 23, 2020) – The Regional Transportation Commission (RTC) of Washoe County and Sierra Nevada Construction (SNC) are continuing to accelerate construction operations in Midtown. The RTC plans to close the segment of Virginia Street from Center Street to Vassar Street to all roadway traffic on Thursday, June 25 from 7 a.m. – 4 p.m. to complete concrete work on the center median. This work can only be done safely by closing this segment of Virginia Street. Sidewalks will remain open and all businesses will remain accessible. At 4 p.m. Virginia Street will reopen to southbound-only traffic in this section.
During this closure, southbound traffic will be detoured at Center Street to Holcomb Avenue. Traffic can reenter southbound Virginia Street at Vassar Street.
Parking in this area will be closed until the week of June 29 so the concrete can cure.
The RTC plans to reopen Virginia Street to two-way traffic up to Center Street/Mary Street by July 4, and up to Liberty Street by mid-August. The Virginia Street Project in Midtown is on track to be complete three months ahead of schedule.
RTC’s Route 1, RAPID Virginia Line, and UNR-Midtown Direct will continue on a northbound detour on Holcomb Avenue and Center Street. Southbound routes will detour at Cheney Street to Holcomb Avenue to Virginia Street beginning at 6 a.m. until the roadway is reopened to southbound traffic. Check route and schedule information at rtcwashoe.com.
