Construction News

RTC and SNC upgraded three RAPID transit stations on Virginia Street in Midtown with new structures that include level boarding and real-time arrival information. Crews are completing final improvements including lighting, seating and electrical. The RAPID Virginia Line Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) service will be extended to the University of Nevada, Reno, in early 2021.

Please use caution in and around the construction zone for the safety of drivers, pedestrians, bicyclists, and construction crews.

Traffic Control

All operations are weather permitting.

  • NEW The intersection of Virginia Street and Liberty Street will be partially closed on Monday, July 20 and Tuesday, July 21. Westbound traffic will be detoured to State Street.
  • NEW The bridge on Virginia Street over I-80 between Maple Street and Eighth Street, west of Walgreens, is closed to through traffic until mid-AUgust. Northbound drivers and pedestrian traffic is detoured to Center Street via Maple Street. Southbound drivers and pedestrian traffic will be detoured to Sierra Street via 9th Street.
  • NEW North Virginia Street is open to northbound-only traffic between 15th Street and the Sierra Street/Comstock Drive/Virginia Street intersection, just south of McCarran Boulevard. Southbound traffic is detoured to Sierra Street to 15th Street to Virginia Street through fall of 2020.
  • Virginia Street is two-way traffic from Center/Mary Streets to Plumb Lane.
  • Virginia Street is one-way southbound from Liberty Street to Center/Mary Streets with two-way traffic anticipated in August.
  • Crews are placing center medians, striping the roadway and installing landscaping on Virginia Street from Liberty Street to Center/Mary Streets.

Transit Detour

RTC’s Route 1, RAPID Virginia Line, and UNR-Midtown Direct will continue on a northbound detour on Holcomb Avenue and Center Street. Southbound buses are on their normal routes. Check route and schedule information at
