Virginia Street – Weekly Update September 20, 2019

CONSTRUCTION NEWS

This week, construction operations advanced slightly north to Vassar Street.
Beginning later next week, construction operations on Virginia Street will gradually progress north to Center Street from the current construction limits at Vassar Street.  As construction on Virginia Street moves northward, the road will be open to southbound-only traffic between Center Street and Regency Way. Two-way traffic will remain in place on Virginia Street south of Regency Way and north of Center Street.
Northbound traffic will be detoured at Regency Way to Wells Avenue to Vassar Street to Holcomb Avenue. At the Holcomb Avenue/Burns Street intersection, Sierra Nevada Construction will create a left turn from northbound Holcomb Avenue so drivers can access Virginia Street from Center Street.
The RTC plans to reopen the segment of construction on Virginia Street from Mt. Rose Street to Plumb Lane back to two-way traffic in November.

Midtown Business Marketing Success

Ellie with Midtown Community Yoga includes construction information in her updates to customers. “Providing my clients with current information about the status of our street and letting them know we are open for businesses is key,” she said.

Midtown Minute

Each week, Lotus Radio airs a Midtown Minute, advising the community about important Virginia Street Project information. We would like to include more business owners in the weekly radio spot. If you would like to record a Midtown Minute, letting your customers know how to get to your business during construction, please reach out to Lauren Ball, RTC Public Information Officer at lball@rtcwashoe.com. (Business owners need to be available on Thursday afternoons to record the segment at Lotus Radio studios on Plumb Lane.)
