Midtown Hosts Presidential Candidate

On Saturday, January 25, 2020, presidential candidate Tom Steyer toured the Virginia Street Project and a portion of Midtown.  The event was coordinated through the Reno Sparks Chamber of Commerce and included Midtown business owners Jesus and Mari Gutierrez from Mari Chuy’s Mexican Kitchen and Kevin and Kaya Stanley from Rue Bourbon.

Construction News

Crews are constructing a new bus rapid transit station on Virginia Street near Regency Way. Removal of sidewalk, curb and gutter on the east side of Virginia Street north of Center Street are complete. Concrete improvements in this area are underway. Roundabout construction is ongoing on Virginia Street at Mary Street and Center Street. Please continue to use marked detours. Businesses are open and accessible. We encourage you to support Midtown businesses during construction.

Construction Look Ahead All operations are weather permitting.

  • Installation of infrastructure for transit stations.
  • Roundabout construction at Center Street and Mary Street; Center Street is closed at Virginia Street.
  • Construction on the east side of Virginia Street, from Vassar Street to Stewart Street continues.

IMPORTANT CONSTRUCTION INFORMATION: Construction on the west side of Virginia Street, from Center Street to Liberty Street, is anticipated to begin in mid to late February.

What:  Learn about the next phase of construction
When Friday, February 7, 2020 anytime between 10 am and 12 pm
Where: JoStella Coffee Company at 701 South Virginia Street

Construction on the west side of Virginia Street, from Center Street to Liberty Street is anticipated to begin in mid to late February. Crews will be removing existing sidewalks, curbs and gutters and installing new infrastructure. At some locations, these removals will be at business store fronts. Boardwalks will be installed to access businesses. Businesses will be notified in advance of construction activity.

Please come talk with the construction team to learn about the next phase of construction on February 7 from 10 am to 12 pm at JoStella Coffee Company.

The Midtown Design Review Committee–comprised of any interested business owners and citizens in Midtown and beyond–are invited to discuss preferred locations for the artistic benches and bike racks that were chosen by the DRC, the Public Art Committee with representatives from Midtown, and the Arts & Culture Commission.
