Upcoming Detours for the Virginia Street Project
Reno, Nevada (September 3, 2020) – The Regional Transportation Commission (RTC) of Washoe County is planning the following upcoming road closures and detours due to construction work on the Virginia Street Project
– Friday, September 4, and Wednesday, September 9, from 4 a.m. – 7 a.m.: The roundabout near the University of Nevada, Reno, will be closed to traffic for construction work. During these brief closures, northbound traffic will be detoured at 15th Street to Sierra Street. Signs and traffic flaggers will help direct traffic.
– Wednesday, September 9, from 7 a.m. – 4 p.m.: Center Street near Midtown will be closed to through traffic for roadway striping between Taylor Street and Moran Street. Traffic will be detoured at Taylor Street to Virginia Street. Side streets will remain open and all businesses will be accessible.
For the safety of construction crews, drivers, pedestrians and bicyclists, please use caution in and around construction zones.
Construction on the Virginia Street Project in Midtown is nearly complete. Construction near the University is anticipated to be complete this fall.
About the Virginia Street Project:
The Virginia Street Bus RAPID Transit Extension Project will improve safety and provide better access, enhanced transit service and improved mobility for everyone. This includes extending the RAPID Virginia Line from Midtown to the University of Nevada, Reno. The project represents an approximately $90-million investment in our community.
The project is funded with fuel tax revenue, sales tax revenue, and federal funds.
